The ELISAH project aims to reduce the burden of breast cancer by acting on modifiable risk factors and involving NGOs and patient groups. It will develop different strategies that integrate structural interventions and individual health promotion, and the relationships between risk factors. The ELISAH project website is the most relevant communication and dissemination point. On the website you can find information about the project structure, events and news as well as related documents.

The Consortium Agreement has been finalized and it is available on the website.
As detailed in Article 7 of the ELISAH Grant Agreement, beneficiaries must have internal operational and coordination arrangements in place to ensure that the action is properly carried out. These arrangements must be set out in a written consortium agreement between the beneficiaries and must cover, for example:
|
- Internal organization of the consortium
- Management of access to the portal
- Different distribution keys for payments and financial responsibilities in case of recoveries (if any)
- Additional rules on rights and obligations related to the background and results (according to Article 16 of the Grant Agreement)
- Settlement of internal disputes
- Liability, indemnification and confidentiality arrangements between the beneficiaries.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month
|
Every October, communities around the world come together to recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an international campaign that promotes the knowledge of this cancer. Specifically, On October 19 the World Health Organization celebrates the International Day against breast cancer. The ELISAH project has developed several information pills to raise awareness of the different risk factors for breast cancer. These information pills have been disseminated through our social networks.

Work package 3 (WP3) includes retrospective and prospective studies to define the unknown prevalence of risk factors in the European population of breast cancer patients. The protocols for the different studies have been finalized. Specifically, the objectives to be achieved are based on the following topics:
|
- Geographical analysis related to pollutants exposure
- Analysis of body mass index, alcohol and tobacco use as risk factors
- Association between the use of prosthetic breast implants for treatment and cosmetic purposes and the incidence of anaplastic large cell lymphoma or other lymphomas.

In Europe (EU27), the estimated number of cases of breast cancer in women in 2022 was 374,836 and the incidence rate was 148 cases per 100,000 woman-years.
This is the incidence map provided by the European Cancer Information System (ECIS).
|
ECIS provides the latest information on indicators that quantify cancer burden across Europe.
It permits the exploration of geographical patterns and temporal trends of incidence, mortality and survival data across Europe for the major cancer entities.

An introductory course on the QGIS tool was held on October 30th and November 4th and 11th. QGIS is a data visualization, editing, and analysis program that forms a geographic information system. It is an open source software and it can be used with different operating systems. This course was attended by several researchers from the centers involved in the ELISAH project.

Everything is almost ready to launch the intervention project to test whether the use of a mobile application can help facilitate a change in behavior towards a healthier lifestyle to reduce exposure to breast cancer risk factors. The web application has been designed and the pilot study is scheduled to start in January next year. The study will be open to all women with the BRCA+ gene, whether they had cancer or not.
